2010 Movie #11: When in Rome

小花 was a bit tired so we initially decided not to watch movies tonight. However, we decided to watch if there were still good seats available and finally selected "When in Rome" as it was a romantic comedy.

It was funny to see Beth suddenly being pursued by 5 suitors at the same time, as all of them were rather "weird" characters. The things that they do to attract the attention of Beth were hilarious. We enjoyed the show and laughed throughout the movie.

After the movie, 小花 suggested to go to KFC for dinner. We intended to use a coupon to buy a buddy set meal, but the staff insisted that the drumstick could not be changed so 小花 got angry and decided not to dine at KFC. In the end, we went to McDonald's instead.

Photo Book - Get!

Today 小花 and I went to Dhoby Ghaut again, but this time to collect our photo books. We were excited to see the printed books so we decided to collect them first, so that we could take a look at them while waiting for our lunch orders to be served.

We were very pleased with the results. I was a bit worried at first as I had used a few photos for full page spreads and did not know whether the photos would become blur. Luckily the images all turned out fine :)

Although it was time-consuming to select the photos and arrange them into the photo book, I felt that it was very satisfying and at the same time, made me refresh my memories on the trip. Shall continue to do more photo books in future :)

2010 Movie #10: Green Zone

小花 had a pair of free Gold Class tickets so we decided to watch "Green Zone" as there were quite a number of positive reviews. The story was quite interesting as it offered the possibility that America went to war with Iraq due to false information from their own intelligence officers. It was quite different from typical war movies, where most of the focus is on the action rather than the motives/politics of war.

Though the "action" was not the focus, there were still many scenes of characters chasing people and exchanging gunfire. I was particularly startled during a scene where someone suddenly broke into a house and fired at the people in the house. Overall, I felt that it was a good and thought-provoking movie.

Sky Wu's Mini Concert

My 小妹 obtained 2 tickets to Sky Wu's Mini Concert by sending SMS to a radio contest on 100.3FM on Thursday. My father tried on Friday and thought he did not win any tickets so he asked my 大妹 to try. In the end, both of them won so we have 6 tickets in total ^^||| However, as my 大妹 had already agreed to celebrate her friend's birthday that day, I checked with 小花 if she would be free to go instead. As there were 2 extra tickets, I asked 小花 to bring her mum along too.

The venue was at Dragonfly pub at St James Power Station. We met at around 7 pm and proceeded to queue to go in. However, we were disappointed that there were no seats and we had to stand throughout. Previously both my sisters had attended another mini concert organized by 100.3 FM and there were seats at that venue. So pai seh as I would not have asked 小花 to bring her mum if I had known there were no seats.

The place was rather packed and it was rather disrupting when people who paid for tickets to this mini concert squeezed through the crowd to get to the tables located in the middle, and waiters similarly had to weave through the crowd to serve them. I felt it was a really bad layout.

Luckily, the songs were good and Sky Wu sang a mix of new and old songs. The interaction between Sky Wu and the DJ were also quite funny so we were kept entertained throughout. The mini concert lasted about one and a half hours and we left for home after that.

Here's a short clip of the mini concert:

2010 Movie #9: How to Train Your Dragon

Tonight we watched our second movie for the day. We had seen the trailer for this movie and it seemed like a good show. We were not disappointed as both the story and animation were great. It's so funny to see Hiccup easily taming the various dragons with the weaknesses he found through his interactions with Toothless, but the other characters have to try so hard and yet not succeed.

It was also heartwarming to see how the relationship between Hiccup and Toothless developed, from Hiccup freeing Toothless after capturing him, to Hiccup bringing food for Toothless and training Toothless to fly again, to Toothless trying to save Hiccup from the gigantic dragon. Overall, it's a fun and witty show and I highly recommend it.

2010 Movie #8: Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva

As there were a number of new movies released this week and the timings for this movie did not suit us, 小花 and I decided to watch it during our lunch break :P We had enjoyed playing the Professor Layton games on NDS so we were very interested in this show.

Perhaps it was an odd timing but there were only 5 people (including both of us)in the whole cinema! Felt a bit weird as there were so many empty seats in front of us. However, we quickly settled down and the movie soon started.

The plot was quite good and we loved the music in the movie. It was very captivating and I felt it really connected the story together. The movie even had a few puzzles, which brought back memories of the games we played. Hopefully there would be more movies being made for this Professor Layton series.

Photo book

Last Saturday night, 小花 told me that she has finished her photo book and submitted it for printing. This motivated me to work on my photo book these few days and finally finished it tonight. However, I encountered some problems when trying to upload it through the application and only managed to get it right on the third try. Phew...

Should only be able to collect it next week as five working days are needed for processing. This is my first time doing a photo book so hope it turns out fine :)

2010 Movie #7: Nodame Cantabile The Movie

小花 and I were looking forward to this movie since watching the drama and we were not disappointed. Many of the scenes were so funny that we couldn't stop laughing, such as the ones where Nodame bit Chiaki's neck, orchestra members playing out of tune while Chiaki was conducting, Nodame cooking curry for her friends, and Nodame being late for Chiaki's concert. It was really entertaining, and the whole cinema was filled with laughter :)

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and was a little sad when it ended. The movie sequel would only be screened in Japan on 17 Apr. In the meantime, we can only watch the trailer for the movie sequel. Can't wait for it to be screened here...

Nodame Cantabile

Have been rushing home after work the last few days to continue with the j-drama "Nodame Cantabile" and finally finished all 11 episodes and 2 SPs today. It was a really good show and I enjoyed watching it. I never knew that it is so difficult to be a good conductor, as he/she must not only be able to listen for any mistakes made by the orchestra, but must also be able to make the orchestra work in harmony. This drama has really made me view an orchestra in a different manner, as well as appreciate classical music more.

Can't wait for the movie tomorrow....

Trip to Dhoby Ghaut

A colleague mentioned to 小花 about printing our holiday photos into a photo book instead of developing the photos, so I tried to search on the internet for companies that provide such services. Found one with rather good recommendations in a forum so we wanted to check out the samples at their store to get an idea on the size and layouts of the photo books.

The shop was at Dhoby Exchange so we decided to have lunch around that area. We saw a cafe "Just Acia" that had set menus with reasonable prices and decided to give it a try. It was a really good choice as the food was tasty and the set was value for money, costing only $5.90++ with free flow of drinks and ice-cream. Shall dine there again when we collect our photo books.

After the meal, we went to the shop to browse through the samples on display. Some were done quite professionally and it gave us some ideas on how we could do our photo books. The person-in-charge was also friendly and offered to answer any queries that we might have. Shall try to work on it this weekend :)

Nodame Cantabile

小花 and I saw the poster for "Nodame Cantabile - The Movie" at Golden Village and decided that we would watch it when it is screened next week. As we have never watched the drama before, we thought of watching it first to get an idea of the story before watching the movie. So today I started on this j-drama and found that the story was rather amusing yet heart-warming. Even though the music was classical music, it was very captivating and not boring at all.

Started a bit late so only managed to watch 4 episodes. Shall try to finish it before our movie next Friday...

2010 Movie #6: Alice in Wonderland

Today 小花 and I watched the movie "Alice in Wonderland" in 3D. I've read the storybook but as it was a long time ago, I have only a vague memory of the story. Though the movie was somewhat different from the original story I remembered, I still enjoyed it as it was fun and the cinema was filled with laughter for many scenes.

Many of the characters were funny and adorable, but I like the Cheshire Cat most of all :) It always seem to appear and disappear suddenly but always with that huge grin on its face. Overall, an enjoyable movie with great effects.

As 小花 has never read the storybook before, I shall see if I can find mine and lend it to her next week ;)

Refocusing my Priorities

Finally decided to stop playing Cafe World on Facebook. Although it didn't really take up a lot of my time, I found that I was constantly keeping track of whether it is time to serve the food. It was also getting rather boring since there wasn't much to do besides just leveling up.

I have also decided not to stay up late when I have to go to work the next day. In addition, I have stopped my self-learning of Japanese for some time and want to restart again. Therefore I'll try to limit myself to stop watching J-dramas or surfing the internet by about 11 - 11.30 pm and then spend about 1 hour to improve on my Japanese. Thus, I should be in bed by about 12.30 am.

I'm not sure how long I can keep this up but will try my best to do so. Wish me luck :)
