April Bride

小花 and I wanted to watch the movie "April Bride" but it was not showing at VivoCity. We had no choice but to go to the GV at Plaza Singapura instead. Our colleague drove us there after work and we had dinner at Ajisen before the movie.

This movie is based on a true story and is actually very sad, but certain "distractions" in the movie made me feel like laughing instead. For example, when Chie died, I could still see her eyeball roll and her fingers twitch. It was supposed to be a sad scene but I couldn't help but try to suppress my laughter when I saw that.

I felt that certain scenes were too slow-paced, which made the movie a bit draggy. However, overall it was a touching movie as Taro never thought of leaving Chie when he found out she had cancer, and later even decided to marry her although he knew she would only have 1 month left. I think the song in the movie truly captured the undying love Taro had for Chie.

"Some say love it is a river that drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razor that leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love it is a hunger, an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower and you it's only seed

It's the heart afraid of breaking that never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely and the road has been too long
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter, far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun's love
In the spring becomes the rose."
