Italy - Capri & Naples

This morning we took a hydrofoil from Sorrento to the Isle of Capri. Upon reaching the island, our guide went to check if the tour to the Blue Grotto was available today, as it was subject to weather conditions and had not been operating the past few days. We were lucky that the weather was considered good today so we boarded a motorboat which took us to the entrance of the Blue Grotto.

As the entrance was just a tiny hole, we had to transfer to a small rowboat to ferry us into the cave. We also had to lie down as flat as possible when going through the entrance. However, as the water was rather choppy at that time and the oarsman for our rowboat did not catch the correct timing, we were soaked through when entering through the entrance. It was very dark in the cave but very beautiful as the water glowed a brilliant blue colour. It was a pity that we could only stay in the cave for a few minutes and as we could not see whether our cameras were wet, we didn't take any pictures.

We transferred back to the motorboat which sent us back to the island. We then followed the guide for a short walking tour before we were given some free time for lunch, as well as do some souvenir shopping.

Later we boarded a ferry for Naples. We took a walking tour of Naples to see the Castel Nuovo, a castle built during the time of the first king of Naples. We then went to the Piazza del Plebiscito, the largest square in Naples with the Royal Palace and the church of San Francesco di Paola. We also went to the Galleria Umberto I, which is a public shopping gallery.

After that, we went for dinner at a nearby restaurant. We were rather shocked when we were each served half a pizza as "appetizer" and a plate of spaghetti as the main course. Most of us didn't finish the pizza as we were too full, but the spaghetti tasted delicious though. After dinner, our coach took us to the hotel and we rested for the night.
